Enjoy yourself, it’s later than you think;
Enjoy yourself, while you’re still in the pink!
In the language of flowers the sweet pea means delicate or blissful pleasure.
The lavender is at its peak right now. One of my favourite flowers and loved by the bees as well! It is easy to grow in a sunny border or container. I always like to dry some of the flowers for winter flower arrangements indoors. Just tie together some of the flower spikes and hang upside down until dry.
The flowers on this evergreen shrub are quite unspectacular and you could easily pass by without noticing them, if it wasn’t for the fragrance that fills the air. It is also known as Sweet box or Christmas box. They flower from December to February and are followed by shiny black fruit. Grow close to a path where you can appreciate the scent. An easy-to-grow shrub that likes shade and reaches about four feet in height. It spreads a little, but is not invasive – the new shoots are easy to pull up and you can give them away to your friends.
Semi-evergreen Shrub. Flowers April-May. Height 2.5m
For most of the year this is a fairly unremarkable shrub, but when it flowers in April and May, it is the star of the garden. When in bud, the flowers are delicately edged with pink and when open they have the most exquisite scent – it’s a pity it can’t be bottled! Plant near a path or doorway to make the most of the fabulous fragrance.
